Welcome to the Delmarva Chapter AMBA These mustangs were gathered July 8, 2004 North of Ely, NV

The Delmarva Chapter is a small local group within The American Mustang and Burro Association, Inc. (AMBA) based in Grass Valley, CA.  It is governed by AMBA By-Laws and Guidelines.  Chapter members come from Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania.  (The word “Delmarva” is a local expression indicating the states of Delaware, Maryland and Virginia)  The Chapter is open to anyone who has a love for wild horses and burros and value the beauty, strength, endurance and heart of the American Mustang and Burro.  Mustang or Burro ownership is not a requirement for membership.  However, Chapter members must be members in good standing of the national American Mustang and Burro Association, Inc.

Our Mission

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has been charged by Congress with the responsibility of protecting and preserving wild equine. We believe that the “Adopt-a-Horse-or-Burro” program is currently the most effective way of accomplishing this although we may not always agree with every aspect.  Our function is to support the Bureau’s program and to assist in whatever way we can.  Our goal is to help and not to hinder the process.

We feel that education is the key to public acceptance of Mustangs and Burros.  Therefore, our thrust as an organization is to demonstrate to the public that these animals can be successfully trained in a variety of disciplines.  With a program of continued training, formerly wild mustangs and burros can become winners in local, state, regional and national competition.  One goal of the Chapter is to annually hold at least one wild horse and burro show that demonstrates the beauty and versatility of these animals.

We further believe our collective experience can serve as both a resource and encouragement for new adopters and others who share our admiration for the American Mustang and Burro.

Affiliations and Activities

The Chapter is a group member of the Delaware Equine Council.

For several years Chapter members have attended the National Wild Horse Show in Nevada; visited BLM holding facilities; visited the prison wild horse training program in Warm Springs, NV; and have been present at a BLM gather of wild horses in central NV.

The Chapter sponsors a Mid Atlantic Wild Horse and Burro Show.

The Chapter schedules other activities that meet its goals.  These activities may include assisting the BLM whenever and wherever possible as well as parades, fun shows, trail rides,  public and private school visits, educational opportunities, demonstrations, etc.  Members may also be asked to mentor new adopters.
